Leslie Scott is the founder and artistic director of BODYART, a New York based multi-media modern dance Theatre Company. For her evening-length work An Hour About An Hour Ms. Scott won acclaim at 2006’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In addition to performing at several New York landmarks such as The Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Joyce Soho, The Cunningham Studios, and 3LD Art & Technology Center, BODYART was thrilled to be invited to The Dixon Place’s inaugural season. BODYART mostly recently performed at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas.

Scott opened BODYART Studio in April 2010. This 1800 sq/ft arts space based in Long Island City, NY provides reduced fee rehearsal space for NYC artists. Scott won praise for the PILLAR program which places a premium on the creative process rather than the product.

As an independent choreographer Scott set a work on DC based CityDance Ensemble’s Studio Company in October 2008 and was the choreographer-in-residence for Elon University in early 2010. She was recently recognized with an outstanding alumni award at TCU. Scott holds a BFA in Modern Dance with an emphasis in photography from Texas Christian University. Ms Scott and BODYART enjoy regular teaching and choreographic residencies across the country including Elon University, University of Texas Arlington, University of North Texas, Greenhill School, San Jose State University and Texas Christian University.

As a photographer Scott worked with world-renowned dance photographer Lois Greenfield. She is the photographer in residence for BODYART and also enjoys shooting for Texas Christian University, Elon University, and was a staff intern photographer for the American Dance Festival in 2005. Most recently Scott directed the BODYART dance company in an underwater shoot in Turks and Caicos with acclaimed photographer, Chris Crumley. These images will be incorporated into the company’s new evening length work set entirely in a pool of water and are also set to be published in a coffee table book.

Scott has worked for Jodi Kaplan & Associates as the International Project Manager for the past four years, overseeing the agency’s touring projects. As an International producer Scott continues her work from the booking DANCE FESTIVAL Beijing 2008, which coincided with the summer Olympics, to the Edinburgh Festival 2010 & 2011 and South Africa Festival.
